User Guide: 10 easy steps to using your AvoJect Syringe

Please see FAQs for recommended timing of injections for avocado trees in NZ

  • HiPK poured into water to create desired solution.

Step 1: Mix and dilute solution

  • Rotate the syringe plunger clockwise until it unlocks. Draw 20mls of liquid into the syringe; the liquid should be in line with the line on the barrel

    Step 2: Fill the Syringe

  • Pull the plunger fully back, and store in an upright position.

Step 3: Store in an upright position

  • Using a drill with a 5.5mm drill bit, drill a series of holes to a depth of 20mm separated at 100mm intervals around the circumference of the tree trunk. The holes should be drilled with an angle slightly downwards.

Step 4: Identify trees to treat and drill holes

  • Insert one syringe into each of the pre drilled 5.5mm holes. Twist the whole syringe clockwise to secure into the tree. TIP: The tip of the syringe should be at the lowest point and the end of the plunger should be slightly elevated

Step 5: Twist the syringe into the tree

  • Push the plunger in to halve the air cavity or until resistance is met to create pressure. This is a very important step to ensure the trees take in the solution.

    Step 6: Pressurise the syringe

  • Once pressure is achieved, lock the syringe by turning the plunger ¼ clockwise. Do not force the locking mechanism. Leave the syringe in the tree for 24 hours. The tree should absorb the solution within 6-8 hours.

    Step 7: Absorption

  • Once the tree has absorbed the solution, twist the whole syringe anticlockwise until it is removed from the tree.

    Step 8: Remove the syringe

  • Take the Avoject apart by unscrewing the cap at the top of the barrel. Wash both parts in warm soapy water and rinse with clean water.

    Step 9: Clean the syringe
